In our house, dad has to go on a lot of work trips. If your spouse also has to travel a lot, then you know just how hard it is to be a single parent for a few days! To make the work trip a little more fun, we try and focus on what he/she might be doing on their trip and what their plane looks like. And that is how Princess Airlines was created!
Our Princess Airlines cardboard box project was created with a few giant cardboard boxes, some Disney Princesses, and of course a lot of imagination. Since Amazon probably delivers to our house every other day, we have millions of boxes to choose from around the house.
TIP: Order yourself a giant pack of toilet paper and paper towels and you'll get the biggest box in the world sent to your house from Amazon!
Building the airplane was fairly simple, and I focused on trying to minimize how much cutting I had to do with a scissors and how much tape it would require. So I created the wings just by cutting the flaps of the box halfway, and then bending them back - no tape required! And then I covered them with tin foil (a whole roll at Dollar Tree did the trick). The prop on the front of the plane and the tail were created similarly, but I taped on some extra pieces as well.
Once the structure is secure, then you can start decorating! We colored the box with markers and watercolors (whatever my daughter wanted to use), and then I also spray painted the box pink….although it got a little messy once I broke the sprayer on the top. Ha! And the Disney Princesses were just cut out from a giant gift bag we had leftover from a birthday party.
TIP: Get creative with what you have around the house! Don’t go out and buy a bunch of things because sometimes these creations only last a few days and the kids are bored with them. And if you do buy anything, visit the Dollar Tree or a second hand store for some decoration ideas.
There are so many endless ideas of what you can create with cardboard. Try something new that fits into a theme or favorite TV show of the kids, and you’ll be surprised just how easy it is to create something. Stay tuned for more projects from us too!
